Back On My Writing Desk – Stevens & Dixon Investigations standalone series.
(Book 1:- The Woman Who Vanished)
I’m excited to give you a peek behind the scenes at what I am currently writing!
The Orphan Trilogy is being released each month starting from September 30th. Then October 30th and the final release book 3 November 30th.
After plotting out this first book of my new series, I’m now working on my manuscript, writing my fifteenth book. 📕 With well over a million words already published.
Again, it will have PI Polly Stevens as the main protagonist. She has a passion for finding missing people, and I love her character, that I have already created, with her intriguingly unique background, and so do my readers.
She’ll be leaving Birmingham… for a little while.
I’ve got a very strong idea for Polly’s next adventure, and it’s going to take her a very long way outside her comfort zone.
All the way to Marbella. I’m already half way through this new exciting manuscript.
The Stevens and Dixon investigation begins with what appears to be a relatively straightforward Missing Person case.
Until the deeper they dig, the more they uncover a web of corruption, money and connections stretching far beyond the investigation they were hired for.
I’ve been doing a lot of research into corruption on the Costa del Sol, as I live here, and let’s just say some of what I’ve uncovered has made my browser history rather difficult to explain! 😂
I’m not going to give away the plot just yet because it’s still taking shape. That’s one of my favourite parts of writing a new book. 📖
At the research stage, nothing is set in stone. Every strange detail, suspicious connection or obscure piece of information has the potential to become important.
I follow one thread into another, discover something I wasn’t looking for, and suddenly the story starts heading in a completely different direction.
Stevens and Dixon met in (The Orphan Trilogy) in a covert basement of an Orphanage in Wales and are both now strongly connected to Birmingham.
I love that their home and office is set in my mom’s last home. Feelings of nostalgia for me.
Place matters enormously in this series, and that’s exactly why taking them somewhere completely unfamiliar to them, appeals to me.
This time, their investigation takes them to Marbella, where they find themselves dealing with a very different kind of criminal world , one involving wealth, influence, fixers, hidden connections and of course, murder and corruption.
The further they dig, the more dangerous it becomes.
What they uncover in Marbella could change everything about the case.
Now I just have to see if they make it back home in one piece. 😉
The first in series grounds our duo in a gritty, high-stakes British PI mystery that pairs a fast international investigation with a warm, domestic core.
The Characters: A DUO IN BIRMINGHAM
Polly and Brenton are now established partners in business and lovers in life, living together in Polly’s quiet Birmingham bungalow with Tibby, the cat who still firmly believes he owns the best chair in the house.
While their past experiences of covert trauma remain part of who they are, their history is no longer the central mystery. Instead, it serves as their greatest asset:
• Recognising the Lies:
Their past sharpens how they spot unofficial and official cover-ups, coercive "care," and most importantly the difference between someone vanishing voluntarily and someone being made to disappear.
• Intuitive & Forensic Eye:
Polly’s sharp perception allows her to read human inconsistency and subtle room residue.
• Technical & Strategic Logic: Brenton handles digital tracing, cellular uplinks, and security systems with clinical restraint.
When they aren't out on cases, you'll find them in their Birmingham Office Bungalow over cups of Earl Grey, navigating dry British banter as Stevens and Dixon, and sharing quiet, intimate moments as Polly and Brenton.
The Plot: The Woman Who Vanished.
The story begins when two exhausted, grieving mothers arrive unannounced at Polly’s office bungalow.
Twenty-eight-year-old Sophie Cowter and her fiancé, Billy Gibbons, went on holiday to Marbella, where Billy proposed on a romantic clifftop terrace, and afterwards, that same night, tragedy struck:
•Billy was killed on an isolated Marbella road.
•The Spanish police quickly wrote Daniel's death off as a late-night road incident or mugging, hinting he might have been involved in crime.
•Official authorities listed Sophie as a missing person who likely panicked and fled voluntarily.
However, Sophie’s mother presents a chilling piece of evidence, an eight-second voicemail received in the dead of night:
“Mom, I’m safe for now. Me and Billy didn’t do anything. Don’t trust the Spanish police.”
While Billy’s grieving mother initially fears Sophie abandoned her son, Polly looks at the evidence, including Billy's wallet left with his cash and bank cards intact. She knows the official narrative is a lie. As Polly declares: “She didn’t vanish. Someone made her disappear.”
The Investigation takes them both to Marbella.
Digging into the case behind the sun-drenched luxury villas, palm-lined avenues, and marina glamour lies a dangerous criminal infrastructure:
Stevens & Dixon must navigate a maze of corrupt officials, local non official informants, and timed security loops to bring the truth into the light.
✍️ I am having so much fun bringing Polly, Brenton, and Tibby back for this brand-new era of shoe-leather detective work and high-level suspense. To top it off, I"m adding some very British banter between them.
I can't wait to share more updates as the manuscript comes together!
