Are you a BETA reader?

Will You Be My Next Beta Reader?

Beta readers are one of the most valuable, and often unsung, parts of the publishing process.

I'm looking for a few brilliant ones right now.

So, what exactly is a beta reader? A beta reader is an avid, engaged reader who dives into an author's raw manuscript before it reaches a professional editor.

Your job isn't to hunt for typos or grammatical slips, because that's what copy editors are for. Instead, you're focusing on the bones of the story: the plot, the pacing, the characters, and the overall reading experience. You're the person who spots inconsistencies, flags repetition, and tells me honestly when something didn't land the way it was intended.

Because you're reading in your own time and for the love of stories, it's essential that you genuinely enjoy the Crime, Suspense, Mystery, Psychological, Conspiracy Thriller genre.

A beta read should be a pleasure, not a chore, and your enjoyment of the story will make your feedback all the more valuable.

As a small but heartfelt thank-you, every beta reader receives a name credit in the Acknowledgements section of the finished book. If you're happy to be included, please provide your full name (or the name you'd like listed) along with your written permission when you get in touch.

Once you've read the manuscript in full, I'd love for you to answer the ten questions below. Feel free to add any additional thoughts or observations you feel would improve the story's delivery and enjoyment — nothing is too small to mention.

The Ten Beta Questions

  1. What was your overall impression of the story?
  2. Were there any parts that felt slow, dull, or made you want to put the book down?
  3. What were your favourite parts? Which moments stood out most?
  4. Was anything confusing or difficult to follow? Were there moments where the story lost you completely?
  5. Did any characters feel particularly strong or, conversely, underdeveloped?
  6. Were there plot points that stretched your believability too far? Did you spot any logical inconsistencies or repetition?
  7. How did the pacing feel throughout? Were there sections that dragged or rushed by too quickly?
  8. Did you notice any plot holes or loose ends that were left unresolved?
  9. How would you rate the overall readability — did the prose flow easily, or were there passages that interrupted your immersion?
  10. How did you feel when you reached the final page? Did you want more, or did the story feel complete?

Thank you so much for even considering this — beta readers truly help shape a book into the best version of itself, and I don't take that lightly.
